A soundcard is a device that you use to record sounds into the computer, and to send sound from your computer to your headphones or speakers.

A normal computer has a soundcard built-in, and it works just fine if you just wanna listen to songs on Youtube, watch movies, etc, but if you want to record music and if you wanna use DAW:s and other software you'll need a stronger soundcard.
